North Whidbey Middle School Reviews

I love this school so much! I am an 8th grader this year so this is the last year i will be here but it is a very good school. It is safe, the staff and students are nice, and it is way better than oak harbor middle. Although the pizza here is kinda greasy and there should've been drama club this year (there was last yaer) this is the best school i've been to so far.

it is well organize and the people are really friendly

NWMS is definitely the middle school of choice in Oak Harbor. I have never heard anything bad about NWMS and have never heard anything good about Oak Harbor Middle School. The teams my daughter has had are fantastic. The teachers have been outstanding! They motivate, stimulate and encourage.

I was a student of North Whidbey Middle School from 1998 to 2001 and I have really come to respect the quality of education I recieved there. Students of each grade are set up into 'teams' so that they can really get to know their teachers and fellow classmates on a personal level. This not only allows the student to feel comfortable in their learning enviornment but also allows the teachers to get a better grasp on the learning needs of each student. Technology was always included in our projects as well. When I entered high school I already had a firm grasp on how to use programs such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, which came in handy for the more challenging assignments I faced in the years to come. I really enjoyed my time at NWMS and I hope that you will condiser it for your son or daughter.

Extremely disappointed with the utter lack of organization by the administrators and teachers, albeit nice ones, who are much too overloaded. We requested daily progress reports (with hardly any feedback) and the progress reports between report cards would come sometimes a few days before the actual report card was issued, so little opportunity to see your child was struggling until it was too late. If you have oodles of time to stay on top of these people and are up for daily phone calls to teachers to verify you child is at least passing, this is the place for you. If you think a school should take any initiative/effort to communicate your child needs assistance, don't bank on this school. Nice people, very disorganized and overworked staff. Definitely leaving this area before my little ones would attend this or any other higher education school in Oak Harbor.

A surprisingly good school. Teachers and counseling staff honestly care. Grades are divided into teams for more individualized attention. Parental involvement is welcomed. Large military population makes student body a little rough at times. But the administration works very hard to make school a safe place with quality education. This is considered the middle school of choice in Oak Harbor, with many transfers requested each year from students assigned to the other middle school.
